Several years ago, the Chamber took a survey of visitors at BIG Hat Days. Besides learning how much the public enjoys the event, we discovered that a majority who attend spend their money on food. Since then, we’ve made a conscious effort to provide the best variety of epicurean delights this side of the Fresno Fair.
Every year we have our favorite returning food vendors but we also try to add new faces for a greater selection of tasty tidbits.
Starting in the Bullard Food Court you’ll find fried foods at Katherine’s Concessions, barbequed hamburgers and hot dogs from Grumbles and Greek Food at B-Food International. Next door is Dog Gone Dogs, foot long bacon and chili dogs, followed by Mrs. C’s Egg Rolls. She’s added a lot of sweet, dessert choices including caramel apple. The Artichoke Connection has shrimp filled chokes and All Gourmet Catering makes scrumptious funnel cakes and fancy French fries. You must sample the chocolate dipped cheesecake at Cornado’s Tornadoes.
Across the street enjoy fabulous barbeque from Bushrods and Hawaiian faire from Hula Huts. Move along to Earthly Delights for their best selling Philly Cheesesteaks or Chicken King’s wings and fish sticks. Bowleze returns with his teriyaki bowls and Super Taqueria has great Mexican food.
Pick up a cool Pepsi product then sit at the numerous tables and chairs nearby.
The intersection of Pollasky and 7th Streets has become a top selling food area. On the west side we’ll have fresh squeezed lemonade, strawberry treats and Original Schollers frozen lemonade and chocolate. Cross Pollasky to enjoy yogurt, Yosemite Concessions’ famous corn dogs and chicken strips from Triple S Concessions. Mi Charrita has Mexican food while Custom Collectables fills you up with chocolate covered treats. Next door is PDH – warm, fresh pretzels. Delicious
In front of the carnival on Pollasky, Old Tyme Kettle Korn, a BIG Hat Days favorite returns along with A Taste of Paradise shaved Ice and Fruit N Exotica Smoothies. Continue down to Fifth Street to find Benny’s Italian Ice, Strawberry Treats and Bite Me Mini Donuts.
Fourth Street is becoming a food mecca anchored by Corner Café’s famous tri-tip sandwiches. Nearby is Fruitopia’s chocolate covered fruit on a stick and the Texas Twister Fruit Drink. Sweeties Cotton Candy is on the corner near Wende’s Old Fashioned soft serve ice cream.
And don’t forget to visit the American Legion on Woodworth and Fourth to eat their barbeque tri-tip. The brand new Michelob Ultra beer garden with live bands is right next door.
There is one requirement at BIG Hat Days. You are to ignore the government scare tactics about food. A tasty, sweet snack ever so often won’t hurt you.
