When the City of Clovis incorporated in 1912, there was already a “businessman’s association” which became the Chamber in the same year. There were plenty of small businesses already making Clovis a thriving small town. But did you know that several of those businesses still exist today? And that they are still Chamber members? Next time you’re in Old Town Clovis, be sure and visit them to experience the deep roots of Clovis.
Sassano’s Men’s Wear joined the Chamber in 1910, soon after they opened. They’ve not only been Chamber members for over a century, they also have an employee who has worked for them for 50 years.
Boice Funeral Home is celebrating their 100 year anniversary in September. They’ve been Chamber members for 95 of those years.
Pacific Gas & Electric has been a member since 1937. While we’re not sure, it’s likely that the original member was a small, local gas supplier who was purchased by other companies until PG&E acquired them.
The Cook Land Company was founded by Einer Cook, an icon of leadership for the Chamber and the community. Members since 1942, that leadership has continued through Jerry Cook who has also been a guide and supporter of the Chamber.
Also joining in the 1940’s and still members today are Hedrick’s Chevrolet – how many of you bought your first Chevy there – and Dr. Steve Shute, Optometrist. His office is just a few doors down from the Chamber on the southeast corner of Pollasky and Second.
