Chamber Gives Back

Supports the Marjoree Mason Center

The Chamber Gives Back, a philanthropic program of the Clovis Chamber of Commerce, has been active in the community over the past year. Created in 2012 by Board Chairman Rod Geist, VP Central Valley Community Bank, and coordinated by Director Karena Dillon of Dillon Baker Group, it has impacted the lives of local residents, young and old.

It is best known for Hooked on Books that endeavors to place a book in the hands of every elementary school child in CUSD. In December, the students at Cole Elementary were visited by the Chamber directors bearing the gift of reading. The books are purchased with donations from local businesses and the community during the Chamber festivals. Also, for the second year in a row, Buchanan High School contributed a dozen boxes of books from their own book drive.

In 2014, the Chamber Gives Back has supported the Marjoree Mason Center through additional donations. In a partnership with the Homewood Suites by Hilton and the Hampton Inn & Suites, mattresses, bedding, kitchen utensils and cooking ware plus dishes and silver were contributed.

Janet Taylor, Area Director of Sales at Homewood Suites by Hilton commented, “Homewood Suites has adopted Marjoree Mason Center as our non-profit organization for 2014-2015. Our staff embraced the idea and got involved. They cleaned out their personal closets and garages and brought in items to donate. Then it spread to our families and friends who brought in their items also. We are just happy to help such a wonderful organization”.

Karena tells us, “This year we also received a very generous private donation that included a Christmas Tree (fake) so they can re-use it each year along with eight boxes of decorations for the tree and home. The donor also contributed furniture, household items and bags of women’s clothing.”

The Clovis Chamber is proud to provide such a valuable service to the community and invite others to join us in partnerships. For more information, call 299-7363.
